No Filipino neighborhood is complete without its local karinderya. For many generations, these small eateries have been a beloved part of daily life. As a way to thank them, the Kabuhayan sa Ganap na Kasarinlan Credit and Savings Cooperative (K-COOP) started Project Karinderya to help these small businesses find their footing.
This 2025, Hanabishi collaborated with K-COOP to empower local karinderya owners. The passion and dedication it takes to keep small businesses up and running inspired us to provide our sincerest support—not just by recognizing their efforts, but also by contributing to the communities and families they wholeheartedly serve. Project Karinderya: Supporting Local Families and Karinderyas
Led by K-COOP, the project provided meal subsidies to vulnerable families through redeemable vouchers at participating karinderyas. 10 beneficiaries and 2 health coordinators were chosen from Caloocan, specifically in the districts of Camarin, Lagro, and Bagong Silang. They were picked based on their potential and level of need, ensuring support reaches those who can make the most impact in their communities.
Hanabishi has always believed in empowering Nanays and helping families build sustainable livelihoods. Project Karinderya is perfectly aligned with our Kapartner sa Kabuhayan advocacy, which aims to provide small-time eatery owners with the tools and opportunities they need to grow their businesses and serve the people around them.
By partnering with K-COOP, we were able to extend our heartfelt support not just to the Karinderya owners but also to the families they serve. We fostered collaboration, shared learning, and encouragement—the perfect “recipe” for creating resilient local businesses.
Kapartner sa Kabuhayan Program: Hanabishi’s Role in Empowering Local Karinderya Owners
A little help in Filipino kitchens can go a long way. With Kapartner sa Kabuhayan, Hanabishi lent a hand to Nanays in charge of their own Karinderyas. On August 4, 2025, we handed out Karinderya Starter Kits to the 10 selected beneficiaries and 2 health coordinators to help support their daily work.
Each Karinderya Starter Kit includes one appliance from each category:
- Electric Fan – HISF180C or HISF180
- Gas Stove or Oven Toaster – GS4500 or HO10GX
- Rice Cooker or Pressure Cooker – HHRCFS 2.8L or HPC 10qt
- Water Dispenser or Hand Mixer/Blender – HTTWD650 (with free water) or HHANDBL10-3in1
- Coffee Maker or Airpot – HCM55SS or HPOT399
In partnership with Biotech Japan Philippines and SEAOIL, we pushed for extended support through their respective donations of Instant Rice pouches and LPG tanks meant to sustain their daily cooking operations.
Through our efforts, we helped empower Nanays with the right tools to manage their businesses. We hope to create a close community of small business owners who support each other and foster a collaborative environment for Karinderya owners for many years to come.
