What are the queso de bola recipes to make over the holidays?

  1. Queso de bola carbonara
  2. Queso de bola baked potatoes
  3. Queso de bola grilled sandwich

When you see a big ball of cheese wrapped in red while grocery shopping, then you know that it’s Christmastime in the Philippines! This type of cheese is salty and nutty, which makes it a perfect substitute for parmesan cheese. Use it as a topping in your Christmas dishes, add into your favorite dip, or consume with crackers. But if you want to incorporate this ingredient in your Noche Buena or have some leftovers after the holidays, then you can make these queso de bola recipes instead! Keep on reading.

Queso de Bola Carbonara

Queso de Bola Carbonara

Filipino-style carbonara is made not with eggs, but with cream. This makes it easier to cook even when you’re inexperienced. Aside from Pinoy-style spaghetti, this is one of the pasta dishes that are popular during Noche Buena!

You can add a twist to this pasta dish by using Queso de bola to garnish it instead of parmesan cheese. You can cook this on a stovetop or a multi-cooker if you have one. Planning to upgrade your cooker this Christmas? Check out Hanabishi’s diverse selections of gas and electric stoves. You can also buy a ceramic cooker, which is suitable for any cookware.

Ingredients:

  • 250 g spaghetti, cooked
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose cream
  • 1 pc chicken cube
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • ½ cup queso de bola, grated
  • Bacon, fried
  • Button mushrooms, chopped
  • Pepper, to taste

Steps:

  1. Before cooking, dissolve the chicken cube into a cup of water.
  2. In a pan over low to medium heat, melt the butter. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Stir the flour into the garlic butter mixture to form a paste.
  4. Next, add the dissolved chicken cube and whisk the mixture until thick.
  5. Add the all-purpose cream and cook for 5 minutes over moderate heat.
  6. Put in the mushroom and bacon before seasoning with pepper.
  7. Add the cooked spaghetti before topping it with grated queso de bola.
